Coming Out of Depression

As many of you know I have struggled with a deep depression over the past two years. It led to a suicide attempt last year. It seemed like no matter what type of therapy I tried, it didn’t get to the root cause. It has left me unable to work over the past year. Finally, a therapy seems to be working and the depression seems to be lifting. It’s called electroconvulsive therapy or ECT. It works by knocking me out with anesthesia and giving me a muscle relaxant to have a controlled seizure that lasts around a minute. I’ve had five sessions and am scheduled for twelve total.

Outside of therapy, God has been lining up opportunities for me as well. I started volunteering at my local church that will turn into an internship later this fall. God is providing financial resources to make this work as well (Praise God!). More than anything, I’m looking forward to get back to working in ministry.

it was about a year and a half ago that I took a leap of faith and quit my cushy good paying job because it was a dishonest profession. I trusted God would see me through to the other side even though I didn’t see a way. Its scary to completely surrender your life to the Lord…..at first. Then it becomes exciting to see how God starts to work in your life. Take my finances for example. I started tithing earlier this year my rent money  from my house (my only source of income). Then, God led me to a place where I had $3 in my bank account. Now I will have a large check coming in the next few days.

Now I know I don’t tithe to get from God, but I do believe it creates a contract between God and the believer that says, “My God will supply all of your needs according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:19.

What a journey this has been. Looking forward to coming out on the other side!

  1. God is meeting my financial needs as well. I too had left a job recently and had attempted suicide about 2 years ago. Slowly, slowly, I am trying to get myself to keep moving forward, instead of focusing on my troubles and remaining an angry person. Praise God that HE is always forgiving, even when we’re always failing. Keep writing cuz I’m sure your posts will be a blessing to others as well.

  2. Tithing is actually one of the only places I can recall God giving the go-ahead to test Him. In Malachi, God tells the Israelites to test Him with regard to their tithes and offerings and see if HE doesn’t throw open the floodgates of Heaven. Essentially, He challenges them to try to out-give Him. It’s obviously not going to happen, but it’s a challenge we can all gladly accept, I think.

  3. First off, thank you for bringing me aboard! What a inspiring testimony. I submit that I struggle daily with living out my faith; Totally and genuinely surrendering to the Lord. I see where I’m lacking and need to focus my efforts in terms of spiritual growth *Clearly I have work to do*We give no opportunity for stumbling in anyone, so that the ministry will not be blamed. But as God’s Ministers, we command ourselves in everything 2 Corinthians 6:3-4
